Some new plastic boxes emit an odor. Will this emission have a negative (no pun intended) effect on photographs?
Hi Greg, I know what you mean about the odors some new containers can have. You can wash the containers in a detergent soap and warm water before using them in your application, just in case there are some left over oils from the manufacturing process. I have stored photographs in plastic containers for years and I think what matters more is where you store the photos after you place them in the containers. Leave the new plastic boxes open for a few days and let them air out, you can add some UV exposure by letting them sit in sunshine for a few hours, this can help get rid of some storage or leftover manufacturing smells as well.
